A timely ban for the weekend that’s in it.

The Manchester United team bus was attacked ahead of their 0-0 draw with Liverpool back in December.

A man stupidly hurled a cider bottle and has been convicted of causing criminal damage – but no injuries were reported. The bottle struck one of the coach’s upper glass panels and was smashed as a result.

The Liverpool fan in question was given a three-year football banning order and ordered to carry out 150 hours of unpaid work, as per the Daily Mail.

On top of that, he must pay a £500 compensation order and costs.

He won’t be at Old Trafford on Sunday – unless dressed in disguise, although it’s not like Galatasaray fans had to do that when they packed into the home section earlier this season.

Merseyside Police know that Liverpool have a track record for this sort of behaviour, so they launched a large-scale operation around Man City’s visit to Anfield in the Premier League earlier this month.

Hopefully there won’t be any issues at Sunday’s game.
