Tyrell Malacia will miss the entirety of his sophomore Manchester United campaign due to a long-term knee injury.
The defender initially sustained the issue on the final day of the 2022/2023 Premier League season, forcing him out of the side’s pre-season tour of the United States after he had to undergo surgery to correct the problem.
When Malacia was still absent midway through the current term, fans began questioning his status and whereabouts. He was the first-ever signing of Erik ten Hag’s tenure and played a key role across his maiden year at Old Trafford, making 39 appearances in all competitions.
United announced in December 2023 that the Dutch international had suffered a setback in his rehabilitation, therefore delaying his return to action even further, until reports in March claimed that Malacia would be ruled out for the whole season.
It came as a huge blow, as counterpart Luke Shaw has also endured yet another injury-plagued season. Right-backs Diogo Dalot and Aaron Wan-Bissaka have been taking turns deputising on the left side of defence.
Today, footage has been released of Malacia doing some individual training work in the gym so, hopefully, he can be involved in any summer friendlies before making his full and long-awaited return in 2024/2025.
