Luke Shaw is expected to be named in England’s pre-Euro 2024 training squad today despite being a doubt for the FA Cup final on Saturday.

The left-back’s absence has left a gaping hole on the left-hand side of Manchester United’s defence, with Shaw’s last outing coming in a 2-1 win away to Luton Town in February.

He has been limited to a mere 15 appearances across all competitions this term, and as it stands, fans aren’t expecting to see him return in time for this weekend’s blockbuster FA Cup clash with current holders and fierce rivals Manchester City.

Indeed, a muscle injury has been keeping Shaw on the sidelines for the majority of the campaign, which has led to uncertainty over his place in Gareth Southgate’s Euros squad.

The tournament kicks off on June 14, with the Three Lions’ first group-stage fixture scheduled for June 16 against Serbia, while the team also has two warm-up matches penned in for the beginning of the month against Bosnia and Herzegovina and Iceland.

Shaw’s Euros inclusion hangs in the balance

The Standard reports that the 28-year-old will be given a chance by Southgate to prove his fitness before the manager makes his final decisions on which players will be making the trip to Germany.

Assuming he passes the required fitness tests, Shaw’s performances for his nation in recent years have likely made him a shoo-in for a spot on the plane, but his injury woes could prove too troublesome to risk bringing him along.
