England and Manchester United left-back Luke Shaw seemingly refused to celebrate his team’s penalty shootout win over Switzerland.
Shaw instead decided to show his class by going over to the Swiss players to shake their hands after a heartbreaking loss against the Three Lions, as per the Daily Star.
The Swiss took the lead with a goal from Breel Embolo before Arsenal’s Bukayo Saka equalised with a strike from distance.
However, England won the match as their players scored all the penalties with Liverpool’s Trent Alexander-Arnold scoring the winning penalty.
Most of the players rushed towards Alexander-Arnold to celebrate the win, while Shaw shook hands with the opponents, realising how difficult it was for them to miss out on a place in the semi-finals.
Some of the Swiss players could be seen breaking down in tears as a result of the match.
Shaw back fit
Shaw came off the bench to make his first appearance of Euro 2024, but only time will tell if he is ready to start in the semi-final against the Netherlands.
The United left-back had not played competitive football in over four months before Saturday’s win over Switzerland.
His fitness is a huge boost for Gareth Southgate, who finally has a natural left-back in his team. It was a strange decision not to bring any back-up for Shaw, who everyone knows as being injury prone but excellent when fit.
