Manchester City have ‘spoken’ to Bayer Leverkusen wing-back Jeremie Frimpong about the prospect of him returning to the club.
That is according to HITC and it’s of interest to us because Manchester United have been regularly linked with a move for Frimpong.
Frimpong has been in excellent form for Leverkusen this season, scoring 14 goals and registering 12 assists. He is said to be listed on United’s radar this summer.
It is now reported that City, who had Frimpong between 2010 and 2019 as a youth player, want to re-sign him.
We’ve seen Diogo Dalot become one of this season’s most improved players at right-back, though he still has a lot to prove to make the position is own.
Meanwhile, Aaron Wan-Bissaka is expected to leave in the summer.
Frimpong has enjoyed a successful season under Xabi Alonso, winning the Bundesliga title as well as reaching the Europa League final.
Reports in Germany believe United lead race for Frimpong
According to German newspaper Bild, United are ‘best placed’ to sign Frimpong.
The report suggests United are one of the clubs in the ‘best position’ to secure the wing-back’s signature. Frimpong has supposedly ‘made the decision’ that he wants to pursue a new challenge elsewhere.
