Ruud van Nistelrooy has been out of work since leaving Eredivisie giants PSV Eindhoven in 2023. The Dutchman could be about to land his first job in the Premier League ahead of the new season.

The Manchester United icon has emerged as a contender for Leicester City, who are searching for Enzo Maresca’s replacement.

Leicester were promoted back to the Premier League but their manager has been quickly pipped by Chelsea, who dismissed Mauricio Pochettino at the end of the season.

So, there has been a managerial merry-go-round in the Premier League. It remains to be seen if United will join the circus with Ineos yet to decide on Erik ten Hag’s future.

The latest update from the Manchester Evening News tells us that no imminent decision is expected on Ten Hag’s job this week. Club officials are conducting an end-of-season review to decide on whether it’s time to change managers.

Van Nistelrooy will hope to take advantage of the situation as a coach seeking a new job.

According to reports in Belgium, as cited by The Mirror, Van Nistelrooy is an ‘option’ to replace Maresca.

Van Nistelrooy left PSV at the end of his solitary season with the club after winning the Dutch Cup. He also worked as an assistant to Guus Hiddink with the Dutch national side.

Another former United striker from the Netherlands landed his first job this summer. That was Robin van Persie, taking over at Heerenveen.
