Revamping the midfield will be one of Manchester United’s main priorities this summer as there are a number of question marks in that area for INEOS to consider.

Casemiro, who has endured a disastrous second season at the club, could be on his way out and Sofyan Amrabat, who is on loan from Fiorentina, is increasingly likely to leave after United’s final game of the season.

There have also been suggestions that Christian Eriksen could be set to leave the club, with Scott McTominay rumoured to be of interest to a number of Premier League clubs.

There are no concerns over Kobbie Mainoo, however, with the young England international regarded as the future of United’s midfield.

The growing uncertainty of Mainoo’s team-mates could cause issues, however, and there is now an update on United’s state of play in that regard.

According to CaughtOffside, United are keen to use any money raised from player sales to bolster their midfield and Joao Neves, the exciting Benfica prospect, is viewed as a priority.

The Portugal international has taken Europe by storm this season and is being courted by a host of European superclubs, with a Benfica exit becoming increasingly likely.

It’s also stated that contacts with Adrien Rabiot are continuing as he could be the next midfielder to leave Juventus after their manager was sacked earlier this week.

Additionally, it’s reported that United are monitoring Monaco midfielder Youssouf Fofana, who was recently called up to the France national team for their EURO 2024 squad.

It’s believed that United’s interest in Fofana is challenged by three Premier League clubs – Newcastle United, Aston Villa and Arsenal.

It remains to be seen how much United are able to raise through player sales, with Mason Greenwood, Jadon Sancho and Casemiro all players the club could cash in on.

There are also question marks over the futures of Harry Maguire, Aaron Wan-Bissaka and Altay Bayindir. Anthony Martial and Jonny Evans are expected to leave the club on free transfers.
