Jadon Sancho is one of the players at Manchester United with one foot out the door and if Erik ten Hag stays beyond this summer, it is almost certain that the former Manchester City youngster will leave the club.
Sancho’s public feud with Ten Hag at the start of this season culminated in the winger being exiled from all first-team activity, including training and dining with his team-mates.
The 24-year-old has not featured for the Reds since August last year but has rekindled his career back at Borussia Dortmund in the second half of the season, helping guide the Bundesliga giants to the Champions League final.
With the summer transfer window quickly approaching, it is now being reported that United have set their asking price for Sancho and are standing firm on that figure.
According to The Sun, United are not willing to let Sancho go for less than 75% of the £73m fee they paid to sign the England international three years ago – putting United’s valuation at just under £55m.
Borussia Dortmund are reportedly interested in keeping Sancho at the club but there are doubts over their financial firepower – perhaps a win over Real Madrid in the final would help their cause.
Additionally, should the German club find the funds to match United’s valuation, there is another stumbling block as Sancho remains one of United’s highest earner at the club, raking home just shy of £300,000 per week.
That is another figure Dortmund would balk at and any move back to the Bundesliga would see the star come down in wages.
United struggled in their negotiations with Dortmund four years ago and then again three years ago – they should be playing hardball with them.
At 24, Sancho maintains excellent resale value and a prolonged stay at Old Trafford should not be ruled out either depending on the future of Ten Hag.
