Harry Maguire has been ruled out of England’s warm-up fixtures and faces a race against time to feature in their Euro 2024 opener.
The Manchester United defender was named in Gareth Southgate’s 33-man squad a fortnight ago despite being sidelined with an injury since the end of April.
Southgate will need to trim his selection down to 26 players before this Friday’s deadline, meaning he’ll have to make a concrete decision on Maguire and fellow Red Luke Shaw, who is also on the back of an injury-plagued campaign.
You’d expect that Kobbie Mainoo will make the cut, given his scintillating form at club level this season. He scored United’s second goal in the FA Cup final with a composed finish to make it 2-0, and the Three Lions boss was in attendance at Wembley to witness the teenager’s heroics.

Maguire likely to be rested for Euros opener
As per Mail Sport, Maguire’s calf complaint has seen him deemed unavailable to feature in England’s double-header of friendlies before they jet off to Germany.
Tonight, Southgate’s men take on Bosnia and Herzegovina at St. James’ Park before going head-to-head with Iceland at Wembley on Friday.
Their first group-stage clash is penned in for June 16 against Serbia, with Marc Guehi expected to partner John Stones in Maguire’s absence.
