Manchester United transfer target Matthijs de Ligt trained away from the main group of Netherlands players this morning.

The Netherlands are preparing for the Euro 2024 quarter-final tie against France, which takes place on Friday night.

It looks like De Ligt is facing a race against time to make himself fit enough to make Ronald Koeman’s matchday squad.

According to Dutch outlet NOS, De Ligt trained on his own due to minor complaints.

The Bayern Munich defender has yet to make an appearance at the European Championship in Germany.

With defenders like Virgil van Dijk and Nathan Ake, De Ligt faces stiff competition to break into the national team as a starter.

United’s move for De Ligt progressing quickly

There is some good news this evening from iNews, who state United’s move for De Ligt is ‘progressing quickly’.

The Reds are hopeful of striking a swift deal with Bayern Munich to sign the £42m-rated Dutchman.

Patience will be required while the Netherlands are participating in Euro 2024.

Andy Cole shares De Ligt concern

Former United striker Andy Cole isn’t so sure about United targeting De Ligt.

He said: “I like him but the thing I don’t understand about him is why is he always moving? That’s what I don’t get. He did three years at Juventus and about two years at Bayern, so what I’m now thinking is if he is such a good player, why would the club want to sell him? I think he’s a good player, but you’ve got to start questioning why everyone keeps selling him. He’s only 24-years-old, so I’d like to think that his best years are still in front of him, so it’s an interesting one. I wouldn’t say that Bayern Munich needs the money, but let’s see if it happens.”
