Manchester United welcome Newcastle to Old Trafford for the final home game of the season.
A Premier League clash between two European hopefuls after Manchester United failed to dent Arsenal’s title push on Sunday as we limped to a 1-0 defeat.
That result put Erik ten Hag under more pressure, with constant speculation over the manager’s future. INEOS have not backed the manager publicly yet, and they’re set to make a decision on the Dutchman’s future in the summer.
United’s form has helped Newcastle climb up the table and they will be hoping to secure a place in the Europa League next season. Ten Hag can achieve the same feat in the FA Cup final against Man City.
While Ten Hag has not been helped by injuries this season, United can expect to have Lisandro Martinez fit to face Newcastle.
Eddie Howe’s side dropped points at home to Brighton on Saturday and are now level with Chelsea, on 57. A six-place finish would see Newcastle qualify for next season’s Europa League.
The Magpies have kept a clean sheet in their last 3 matches against United across all competitions, so we will need to threaten their goal – which is not something Ten Hag’s side could manage against Arsenal over the weekend. Newcastle have also won their last 3 matches against the Reds.
