AEW Women’s World Champion Mariah May wants to cement her legacy.
May established herself as a top star in 2024, as she dethroned Toni Storm to win the AEW Women’s World Championship at AEW All In. She will defend the gold against Thunder Rosa at AEW Worlds End.
In an interview with Niko Exxtra, Mariah May was asked to comment on where she sees herself among the greats. She noted that she was on her way, but she was not there yet.
“I think what I did to Toni Storm and being the world champion, I’m kind of shooting there, but I’m not there yet, and that’s kind of what I meant when I said I want to cement my legacy,” May said. “We do have another women’s belt, we have the TBS Title. AEW’s in its infancy, we don’t know what we could have in a few years.
“I have already won the Owen Hart Tournament. So for me, it’s just looking to not only have accolades because accolades are one thing, but it’s about making people remember you.
Mariah May: It’s About Making Moments
May then reiterated that she was determined to make fans remember her by creating unforgettable moments.
“You’re always gonna remember me putting a shoe into Toni Storm’s head, you’re always gonna remember me winning the world title at Wembley. Bt it’s like what moments and memories can we create on these pay-per-views, when we get given the main event of Dynamite or Battle of the Belts or Collision.
“How can we make these things that people are gonna remember, where people remember that moment and when you think of me, you have these memories in your head, so I think that’s what makes someone truly great,” Mariah May said. ” It’s not necessarily like, ‘I’ve won this many titles’ or whatever. It’s that feeling that you have a fan when you did a certain thing. So it’s just about making those moments.”
WrestleZone will have coverage of AEW Worlds End as it airs on December 28.
