Martin Tyler hails £85k-a-week United man whom he claims is their ‘beacon of hope’

Martin Tyler has suggested that Rasmus Hojlund is one player who Manchester United fans should be feeling very optimistic about.

In truth, the majority of the Old Trafford faithful are already well aware of the talent they’ve got in their ranks, as well as the calibre of a No.9 he could become in the not-so-distant future.

Hojlund spent the majority of his maiden Red Devils campaign being Erik ten Hag’s primary striker due to Anthony Martial’s frequent injury woes. While it took the Dane 15 matches before opening his Premier League account, he’d already scored five times on arguably the biggest stage in the Champions League, some of which were remarkable goals.

When he finally put an end to his unwanted top-flight streak with a match-winner against Aston Villa on Boxing Day, Hojlund proceeded to etch his name into the Premier League history books when he became the youngest-ever player to score in six straight matches.

Upon the culmination of the season, the forward had 16 goals to his name in all competitions – and an FA Cup winners’ medal. Given that he’s just 21 years old and still refining his clinical abilities, there’s undoubtedly so much more to come.

Tyler’s glowing verdict of Hojlund

Tyler certainly believes so, too, as he said of United’s starlet on The Joy Of Football podcast: “Manchester United, everybody’s been looking at their season critically, and understandably so, the numbers don’t add up for a club like Manchester United.

“But, Rasmus Hojlund, I think, is a beacon of hope for them. He found it hard to get some league goals, Premier League goals early on, but since actually Christmas time, he’s contributed a lot. They won their last two league games and scored in both those two.”

“I like him,” the commentator added. “I think he’s pacey and optimistic, and they need some future thinking, and he’s done well in the present, but I think he’ll have a very good time because he’s wondering what the future will hold.”
