Anthony Martial’s forthcoming Manchester United exit was generally common knowledge anyway, but Fabrizio Romano has confirmed there’s no chance of the Frenchman receiving a new contract.
As such, Martial will be pulling the curtains on a nine-year Red Devils career this June.
His time at Old Trafford provided numerous highs and memorable moments, however, his torrid luck on the injury front means it’s ended in an underwhelming, lacklustre manner.
It remains to be seen if Martial will even feature for United again before the end of the term, as he’s currently sidelined after undergoing groin surgery in January. At the time, the club announced that he would be back in action following 10 weeks of recovery, yet he’s still unavailable and hasn’t been spotted training with the squad.
December 9, 2023, marks the last time the 28-year-old took to the pitch as United fell to a 3-0 home defeat at the hands of Bournemouth. He hasn’t completed a full 90 minutes in a Premier League match since January 2021.
His most prolific season came under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer in 2019/2020, when he formed a formidable partnership with Marcus Rashford and broke the 20-goal barrier for the first time. The No.9 netted an impressive 23 times while notching 11 assists.
Romano took to X to provide his update on the striker, saying he has ‘no doubts’ the player, who earns a reported £250,000 per week, will be departing upon his contract expiry.
