Last summer, Olympique de Marseille set their sights on Iliman Ndiaye after having struck several blows in the summer transfer window by enlisting Geoffrey Kondogbia, Renan Lodi and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang. A Sheffield United player at the time and a major player in the Blades’ return to the Premier League, the Senegalese international has never hidden his love for the Marseille team, loudly proclaiming his desire to one day return to his beloved club. Despite a long-running saga that animated the entire month of July, the Olympique management managed to pull off a new coup by securing the services of the striker, aged 23 at the time, until June 2028.

Recruited for a check of just under 20 million euros and welcomed with great fanfare by the Marseille supporters, Iliman Ndiaye had a turbulent return to the Canebière, alternating between hot and cold like his team throughout the season. Far from being helped by the context, the Rouen native did not really live up to expectations for his first season in France. It must be said that between Marcelino and Gennaro Gattuso, neither coach managed to get the best out of the Senegalese. It was necessary to wait for the arrival of Jean-Louis Gasset on the bench of Olympique de Marseille to see the former Sheffield United player completely transformed.

Iliman Ndiaye on the rebound in England

Under the orders of the former Ivory Coast coach, Iliman Ndiaye has found his form again, playing more in his preferred position and improving his personal statistics. However, the Senegalese international has not really lived up to expectations for his first season in France. With 46 appearances to his name, the Marseillais has only found the back of the net 4 times for 3 assists, enough to see his future on the Canebière appear in dotted lines. Despite everything, OM’s number 29 has kept a good rating on the transfer market to the point that Everton quickly positioned themselves on him, as we recently revealed exclusively.

Already courted by the English team last summer, the 24-year-old striker had finally given his preference to Olympique de Marseille rather than the Mersey club. However, the Rouen native has been the subject of renewed interest from the Toffees this month, the latter even going so far as to make a first offer for him, the amount of which has not been disclosed. If this first offensive was deemed insufficient in the eyes of the Marseille leaders, we are able to confirm that the two parties are very close to a total agreement. A few details still need to be sorted out to definitively complete the operation. Barring a huge twist in the situation, Iliman Ndiaye should therefore join England very soon only a year after leaving.
