Hyderabad: Commuters in Tolichowki, Mehdipatnam, and surrounding areas are facing severe inconvenience as major roads have been dug up by the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) for sewage and road-laying works. The situation has led to massive traffic congestion, particularly at key junctions like Nanal Nagar and Tolichowki, which are already notorious for heavy traffic.
Nanal Nagar: A Traffic Nightmare
Nanal Nagar, a major traffic junction, has been grappling with heavy congestion for the past 2-3 years. The ongoing pipe-laying work, which has reduced the two-lane road to a single lane, has further worsened the situation. The peak-hour traffic is now nearly unmanageable, causing significant inconvenience to both residents and commuters.
Tolichowki Residents Struggle with Closed Roads
In Tolichowki, key areas such as Brindavan Colony and Paramount Hills have had their entry points closed for several weeks due to pipe-laying projects. Residents are forced to navigate through narrow alternative routes, which are unable to handle the increased traffic flow. The situation has created a bottleneck, leaving both local residents and daily commuters frustrated.
Salarjung Colony Faces Delays
In Salarjung Colony, roads were dug up six months ago for infrastructure work. However, the relaying of roads has been significantly delayed, leaving the area in poor condition and adding to the daily challenges of residents.

Service Roads Closed, Main Roads Overburdened
Adding to the chaos, all major service roads in the Tolichowki area remain closed, pushing traffic onto the already congested main roads. These roads, which have been under pressure for the past 3-5 years, are now unable to cope with the added load, causing gridlocks during most hours of the day.
Efforts by Traffic Police
The traffic police are making their best efforts to manage the situation and reduce congestion. However, with major roads dug up and alternate routes insufficient, the ongoing GHMC works are creating an unprecedented level of inconvenience for Hyderabad’s residents and commuters.
Residents urge the GHMC to expedite the pending works and schedule major projects during non-peak hours to minimize disruption. Until then, navigating these areas remains a daily struggle for all.
