Siddharth Anand to not direct Pathaan 2

As reported by Peeping Moon, YRF’s head honcho, Aditya Chopra, is planning on handing the directorial baton of the action-packed sequel to another filmmaker. The publication quoted a source in the know saying, “Aditya is strategically choosing the directors for each YRF spy universe film and has never repeated directors for its sequel movies, as is evident from the Tiger and War sequels.”

The source continued, “The tradition continues with Pathaan 2 as well, with Siddharth Anand stepping aside for a new director to offer a fresh perspective to Shah Rukh’s swashbuckling spy character. While the director for the sequel hasn’t been finalized, plans are underway to take the project on the floor by the end of this year.”

Despite not being offered the director’s chair for Pathaan 2, Siddharth Anand’s partnership with Yash Raj Films continues. The ‘Fighter’ director’s name is attached to the YRF Spy Universe’s biggest project in development, Tiger vs. Pathaan. This film will witness an epic faceoff between Salman Khan and Shah Rukh Khan’s much-loved characters.

Pathaan 2 will be the eighth film in the YRF Spy Universe. The 5 films released already – Ek Tha Tiger, Tiger Zinda Hai, War, Pathaan and Tiger 3, have amassed around Rs 1,685 crore nett at the Indian box office. Ayan Mukherji’s War 2 – starring Hrithik Roshan and Jr NTR, and an untitled female-centric film starring Alia Bhatt, Sharvari, and Bobby Deol will be the sixth and seventh films in the universe.
