Erik ten Hag did not take kindly to one question after Manchester United’s 1-0 defeat to Arsenal on Sunday.
The Reds suffered a club-record 14th Premier League defeat of a nightmare campaign at a time there is mounting pressure on the manager to keep his job.
INEOS are set to make changes at the club and it remains to be seen if they will back Ten Hag into a third campaign as manager, with United on course for their lowest finish in more than 30 years.
United are currently eighth in the table with two league matches remaining. It doesn’t look like we’ll be playing European football unless we beat Man City in the FA Cup final.
Arsenal forward Leandro Trossard scored the game’s only goal in the first half after United’s defence fell asleep.
Ten Hag was asked a hypothetical question about his injury-hit squad after the game. It was whether his team – without injuries – would stand a better chance against the title-chasing Gunners.
“That is pathetic,” Ten Hag said, as per the Manchester Evening News. “We don’t have to answer this question in this moment. Because it isn’t.
“We have these problems and the problems have caused us an effect in results. But I don’t know where we would be if we had the players on board.
“If we had all of the players on board, we will get more points and have more consistency in the backline.”
United did not perform terribly but we didn’t have the players required to get more from it. Bruno Fernandes was a bit loss, as Lisandro Martinez and Luke Shaw have been for most of the season. Fingers crossed all three are fit for the FA Cup final against Man City later this month.
