Robert Earnshaw’s son, Silva Mexes, has signed for Manchester United.
The 14-year-old confirmed his switch from Ipswich Town via social media on Thursday afternoon.
Mexes shared a photograph holding the iconic No.7 shirt on his signing day. He wrote: “Very proud moment for me and my family to announce my signing for Manchester United. Thank you for everyone who has helped me on my journey so far. The work starts now.”
Earnshaw, who is considered a legend in Wales as well as Cardiff City, was capped 59 times for his country and scored 82 goals in 169 games for the Bluebirds.

The 43-year-old shared an update via X to stress how proud he is of his son’s latest achievement.
Earnshaw wrote: “This is really really special. My incredible son Silva Mexes Tyler-Earnshaw who is known as Silva Mexes has signed for Manchester United academy. I am so so proud. He has worked hard & it’s such a blessing to see him find his passion and make this journey.
“I love you son. I am your number one fan. I will support you in any way possible and I know you have the qualities. Go be great.”
Although Earnshaw tried his best, it must be difficult to describe the feeling of seeing your son join the United academy.
Mexes knows the hard work starts now but it’s important that he enjoys his football and United and grows as a human being and a footballer.
United’s youth players are in safe hands with Nick Cox steering the ship at academy level.
