Rey Mysterio looks back on his WWE Royal Rumble moment with Penta.
Years ago, Penta found himself by entranced by the sight of Rey Mysterio on WWE television. Fast forward to 2025, Penta and Mysterio shared a WWE ring, specifically as the first two entrants in the Men’s Royal Rumble — something Mysterio found spine-tingling.
During a recent appearance on Unlikely with Adrian Hernandez, Mysterio, now a WWE Hall of Famer, reflected on the moment, which has since gone down in the WWE history books.
“It was intense. It was a really special moment, not only for us, but for Lucha Libre itself, for our people that we represent,” Mysterio said. “The fact that after 40-plus years, the first Royal Rumble kicks off with two Mexicans, I get chills just thinking about it. It was a very, very special moment. Not to mention Andrade came in afterwards, Santos Escobar came in as well. So within the first eight minutes, you had five Latinos going at it, which is cool. [It is] representation of Lucha Libre.”
In his respective Royal Rumble outing, Mysterio lasted nearly 25 minutes before suffering an elimination at the hands of Bron Breakker. Meanwhile, Penta, a former AEW Tag Team Champion, emerged as the iron man of the match, with a performance spanning 42 minutes and five seconds. His elimination came courtesy of The Judgment Day’s Finn Balor.
