Cody Rhodes beat Roman Reigns to win the Undisputed WWE Universal Championship at WrestleMania 40 Night 40. The loss marked the end of Reigns’ remarkable reign, which began in 2020 and spanned over 1,000 days.

Reigns took to Twitter on April 9 and provided a brief comment. He wrote, “Yesterday I mourned. Today is Day 1.”

The post includes a clip in which Reigns can be seen working out, and it ends with him smirking.

Cody Rhodes has said that he hopes to be half the champion that Reigns was. Check out his comments here.

Roman Reigns On Elevating Talent

Roman Reigns’ title reign both took him to a new level and helped turn Jey Uso, Jimmy Uso, Solo Sikoa, and Sami Zayn into bigger stars. Speaking with ESPN ahead of WrestleMania 40 Night Two, Reigns discussed his mindset around lifting the talent around him.

“It wasn’t by mistake. It wasn’t by accident,” Roman Reigns said. “That was something that Paul and I discussed. How do we make history? Every top guy and every tandem management and talent, it kind of stays within that nucleus. But how do I get people orbiting me? How do I become the sun? [That’s] the way we looked at it.

“How do we make people better? How do we put a spotlight on people who just haven’t had it, and we know they can take it. I know Jey could step up. I knew Jimmy could step up. Solo is much younger, but we know exactly what kind of cloth he’s cut from. We know the fabric he’s made of. We knew he could handle everything.”
