Vince McMahon’s name remains at the center of controversy, with ongoing legal battles casting a shadow over his potential return to WWE. Fresh off settling a $1.7 million agreement with the SEC over what he referred to as “minor accounting errors,” McMahon’s legal troubles are far from over. Allegations of sexual misconduct, human trafficking, and undisclosed payments continue to plague his reputation.
As the federal investigation into McMahon intensifies, Dave Meltzer weighed in on Wrestling Observer Radio, addressing whether WWE could ever consider bringing him back. “The Vince thing is really interesting. If it was me, I wouldn’t bring him back, but I don’t rule it out. Every time you think he’s dead, he comes back,” Meltzer said.
He added that reinstating McMahon in any capacity involving talent would be a massive hurdle. “I don’t think they’ll ever bring him back in a situation like that. It would be really, really hard to bring him back in any situation where he has to deal with women talent. I just don’t think you can,” Meltzer noted, referencing McMahon’s history of allegations, including those involving former WWE employees.
Meltzer also touched on McMahon’s influence behind the scenes, suggesting he could still impact certain decisions indirectly. “Will he have influence through certain people in some talent stuff? Yeah, because people would ask for his advice no matter what because he’s Vince. Major influence? No.”
But perhaps the biggest obstacle to McMahon’s return lies outside the ring—with WWE’s corporate sponsors. “It’s not just about the fans; it’s about the sponsors,” Meltzer explained. “If they bring him back and some sponsors say, ‘You know what? We can’t deal with this,’ then it becomes an issue. For instance, if Slim Jim or another sponsor were to say, ‘No, no, no, you promised he was gone.’”
With the SEC settlement and federal investigation adding fuel to the fire, WWE must tread carefully as McMahon’s legal woes grow. The question remains: can WWE afford to bring back its former chairman, or is his legacy too tarnished to repair?
