‘Steadily improved’ – Ally McCoist urges patience with Manchester United forward

Former Scotland striker Ally McCoist has urged patience to be shown with Manchester United striker Rasmus Hojlund.

The 21-year-old joined United from Atalanta last year and managed to record 18 goal contributions (16 goals, 2 assists).

Hojlund will hope to do better in his second season at United, but at least we will now have cover in the position, to give him a rest if required. The arrival of Joshua Zirkzee also means competition for Hojlund which is healthy to have in a squad with an objective to be the best.

The Denmark international, who competed at Euro 2024 this summer, scored in the 2-1 defeat against Arsenal over the weekend. Hojlund had to be withdrawn six minutes after his goal due to an injury.

Racing to meet a pass from Aaron Wan-Bissaka, Hojlund pulled up short and there are fears it could be a hamstring injury.

Speaking to talkSPORT, as cited by DAZN, McCoist explained that Hojlund needs maybe 2-3 years before he becomes the finished article.

“One of the most important things for Manchester United is that Rasmus Hojlund keeps improving. I watched him last season and at the Euros and was a little bit concerned about his level of finishing, but I thought it steadily improved.

“I still don’t think he’s anything like the finished article and I don’t think he will be for at least two or three seasons.

“However, from United’s point of view, there has to be a steady improvement in him, and Erik ten Hag will have to rest him at times as well.”

Oh, and any excuse to share that video of McCoist enjoying a wee bit of ACDC.

“Cannae beat a bit of AC/DC man!” 🎸
