Erik ten Hag has addressed Antony’s reaction to Rasmus Hojlund’s winning penalty at Wembley on Sunday.

The Manchester United manager insisted the winger was “provoked” by Coventry City’s players. Something that won’t fit most narratives spread in the media, with journalists wanting to reward Coventry fans for staying behind on their big day out.

Fair play and all that…

Antony cupped his ears and taunted Coventry’s players as they stood in the centre circle after their penalty shootout defeat.

Ten Hag pointed out that Antony had been provoked by the opposition.

The Dutchman told reporters (via Manchester Evening News): “Did you see the reaction of Harry Maguire? He [Antony] was provoked, that’s why this was a reaction of that, you haven’t seen the provocation only the reaction. But he should not do it. I have seen Harry Maguire straight after and others. We should acknowledge the performance of Coventry coming to that final and then to come back. We are 70 minutes totally dominating the game by far and creating many chances. At 3-0, it must have been the game is closed but the return from their siude was very good.”

Credit where it’s due and Coventry definitely deserve it for keeping their hopes alive after going 3-0 down.
