The Rock made his mark during both nights of WrestleMania 40 and hasn’t been seen on WWE television for months now. He has been busy filming ‘The Smashing Machine,’ and now it has been confirmed that filming for the movie has wrapped.

The movie delves into Kerr’s career in mixed martial arts and his personal struggles. The Rock is set to play the lead role, capturing the complex journey of Kerr, both inside the cage and in his personal life, while he has to deal with the hardships that are always prevalent in the MMA world.

Kerr, who earned the nickname “The Smashing Machine” for his aggressive fighting style, was featured in an HBO documentary of the same name in 2002. The documentary covered his MMA career and struggles with painkiller addiction, which led to an overdose.

Safdie also wrote the film, with Johnson’s Seven Bucks Productions, Safdie’s Out for the Count banner, Eli Bush, and David Koplan producing. Hollywood North Buzz reports that Johnson has completed his shooting in Vancouver, where much of the film was shot on a Tokyo Dome ring set at the Pacific Coliseum, reflecting on Kerr’s Pride Fighting Championship matches.

The film is scheduled to continue filming through August 1 in Los Angeles and New Mexico, as well as Tokyo, Japan and is expected to be released in 2025. In the meantime, The Rock is expected to wrestle another match in 2024 before WrestleMania 41 as well, so we’ll have to see how the film will turn out once it drops next year.
