In a bizarre twist of events, Erik ten Hag has found himself linked with the impending Bayern Munich managerial vacancy.
In turn, Thomas Tuchel is believed to be a name on the list of potential Ten Hag successors should the Dutchman be relieved of his duties in the near future, and he’d certainly be interested in taking the reins at England’s most successful club.
Tuchel will be departing Bayern at the end of the campaign regardless of whether they go on to lift the Champions League in June, while Ten Hag faces slightly more of an uncertain future at Old Trafford.
Manchester United’s positioning in the Premier League table means that the prospect of playing among Europe’s elite next term is now entirely off the table. They exited this season’s CL campaign prior to Christmas when they finished rock-bottom of the group stage and were also knocked out of the Carabao Cup – a trophy they held – in the fourth round.
You’d expect that success in the FA Cup final would give Ten Hag significantly more credit in the bank in the eyes of Sir Jim Ratcliffe and co, but the side’s recent tumultuous showings won’t be leaving a positive lasting impression on the new co-owner.
Tuchel eyeing PL return
German football expert Christian Falk shared his understanding of Bayern’s interest in Ten Hag before adding that Tuchel ‘is still interested in the job at United’.
The experienced 50-year-old boasts an impressive career record at each of his clubs. United fans will be well aware that he guided Chelsea to their second Champions League by defeating Manchester City in the 2021 final before proceeding to win the UEFA Super Cup and FIFA Club World Cup with the Blues.
He lifted two league titles with PSG and one with Bayern, as well as plenty of other silverware that’s been accumulated since 2015.
