Figures at Manchester United have attempted to shut down speculation regarding an imminent exit for Altay Bayindir.

Earlier today, a report from his native Turkey claimed that the goalkeeper was on the verge of joining Scottish Premiership champions Celtic on a four-year deal.

Indeed, the Celts will be on the lookout for a new No.1 this summer following Joe Hart’s retirement last Saturday, with his final game being a Scottish Cup victory over arch-rivals Rangers at Hampden Park.

For now, though, it won’t be Bayindir filling the void between the sticks. Anything could happen over the coming weeks, but Chris Wheeler confirmed this afternoon that United sources have denied the rumours surrounding the Red’s potential departure.

Given that he made just one single appearance across the entirety of the 2023/2024 campaign, Bayindir may decide to push for a move when the window opens, and no one could really blame him if he did.

He’d have been well aware when signing on deadline day last September that he was acquired as a backup to Andre Onana. However, even United fans expected to see him deployed more, especially in cup competitions.

Bayindir featured in just one match all season

His first and only outing of the season came when Onana was unavailable due to international commitment at the Africa Cup of Nations.

Bayindir, 26, played a fourth-round FA Cup tie against Newport County on January 28 in a 4-2 away victory for Erik ten Hag’s men, meaning he earned himself a winners’ medal when the side lifted the trophy at Wembley last weekend.
