Manchester United fans feared the worst when Scott McTominay had to be assisted by physio staff while he limped off the pitch last Saturday.

The midfielder had only just returned from a two-game absence through injury before he was deemed fit enough to start against Coventry City in the FA Cup semi-final, in which he scored the opener to mark his 10th goal of the term.

He featured for 103 minutes of the tie and went on to make two off-the-bench cameos in the subsequent Premier League clashes with Sheffield United and Burnley, and it was the latter that saw McTominay sustain what appeared to be a pretty painful injury.

Having only entered the fold around the 65th-minute mark, he was unable to see out the full period of stoppage time against the Clarets and was evidently in distress.

It immediately sparked concerns over his availability for the remainder of the season, as well as his potential involvement in Scotland’s Euro 2024 campaign.

However, the 27-year-old has now taken to Instagram to provide supporters with an update on his condition. McTominay shared an Instagram story on Monday evening that read: “I slipped and fell awkward on my knee – similar to [what happened] against Chelsea.

“Nothing serious, just hyperextension, but I was angry and upset that I thought it was worse than it was. Hoping to be back on the pitch very soon to help the team as much as I can.”
