Manchester United were controversially denied a spot-kick in the first half of their clash with Arsenal at Old Trafford.

Erik ten Hag granted plenty of fans’ wishes after he included Amad Diallo in a starting line-up for the first time this season, and the winger has certainly repaid his manager’s faith across the first 45 minutes.

Amad has been the Reds’ brightest spark on the pitch thus far, completing three dribbles in total – one more than the entire Arsenal team managed.

In the 36th minute and after United had conceded the first goal of the game, the 21-year-old’s silky footwork led to him being challenged by Thomas Partey on the edge of the area and falling in the box. Amad required treatment from the coming-together while VAR checked it over.

Despite the Ivorian clearly tripping over Partey’s outspread leg, it was decided that Amad had actually stepped on his opponent’s foot before tumbling to the floor. Therefore, no penalty was awarded.

When reviewing the incident again at half-time, Roy Keane labelled Arsenal’s No.5 a ‘lucky boy’.
