Sir Jim Ratcliffe has his work cut out when it comes to bolstering Manchester United’s squad sufficiently this summer.
Aside from the other numerous positions that are in dire need of strengthening, the striker department is certainly a priority.
Currently, Rasmus Hojlund is the only senior No.9 available for Erik ten Hag. Anthony Martial has not featured for the club since December 9, 2023, when the Reds sustained a woeful 3-0 defeat to Bournemouth.
The following month, it was confirmed that the Frenchman had undergone surgery for a groin complaint and would be sidelined for around 10 weeks while he recovered, although we’ve yet to see him since.
Whether or not Martial will return to feature before the season ends is fairly futile anyway, given that he’s pulling the curtains on his nine-year United career when his contract expires in June.
Reds targeting Canada international
Jonathan David is a player who’s previously been linked with a move to Old Trafford and now, with the summer window on the horizon, such speculation has resurfaced.
The 24-year-old is reportedly being targeted by both United and Aston Villa, although Tuttomercatoweb claims that Unai Emery’s side are leading the race for David’s signature.
Across the 2023/2024 campaign thus far, the Lille talisman has notched a remarkable 24 goals and eight assists in all competitions. He has just one year remaining on his deal with the Ligue 1 outfit, which could lead to them cashing in this summer rather than letting him leave for nothing in 2025.
Should a sale be the preferred option, Lille could demand a fee of around £30 million to sanction David’s exit.
