Manchester United chiefs remain locked in talks with Matthijs de Ligt’s agent, Rafaela Pimenta, to get a deal over the line as swiftly as possible.
Keen to make the move and reunite with his former Ajax coach, De Ligt is presumably waiting to hold direct conversations when he returns from Euro 2024. Depending on how the Netherlands fare in their quarter-final clash with Turkey this evening, he could be on his way home on Sunday morning.
It remains to be seen when United will lodge their opening offer for the centre-half, and you’d perhaps have to question why they haven’t done so yet. Florian Plettenberg has confirmed this morning that when both clubs begin trying to hash out a final transfer fee, there ‘won’t be an issue’ between the Reds and De Ligt in sealing personal terms.

Reds made aware of Bayern’s asking price
Bayern completed their acquisition of the 24-year-old from Juventus in 2022, signing him for an initial £59.5 million plus a further £8.5m in add-ons. They’re now hoping to recuperate an upfront fee of £42m to sanction his exit, along with unspecified bonus payments.
Trusted Dutch reporter Mike Verweij revealed at the beginning of the week that De Ligt had now established himself as INEOS’ ‘top priority’ target.
