What Is Being Said About WWE Potentially Changing WrestleMania 40 Plans Due To Backlash

One of the most anticipated stories in recent times has been Cody Rhodes’ quest to finish his story. This storyline kicked off after his return to the WWE.

Last year, it looked like Cody was finally going to dethrone Roman Reigns but that didn’t make. At that time, the decision made sense as WWE had the opportunity to build on that for this year and they did just that.

Over the past year, Cody has had multiple obstacles thrown in his way which has prevented him from finishing his story. However, it looked like those obstacles would be finally removed when he won the 2024 Royal Rumble.

On the 2/2 episode of WWE SmackDown, Cody Rhodes confronted Roman Reigns. He told Reigns he wanted to win the WWE Championship but he wasn’t going to do it at WrestleMania. Just then, The Rock came out and it looked like Cody was just brushed to the side as The Rock came face-to-face with his cousin.

Needless to say, wrestling was not happy about this and they made their voices heard. The YouTube video of The Rock returning was the most disliked video on WWE’s YouTube channel.

During a recent Q&A, Mike Johnson of PWInsider.com commented on the possibility of WWE changing the WrestleMania 40 plans again given the negative response from the fans.

“They can change direction any time they want and pivot to something different, including the original Cody vs. Roman plan. Whether they actually do remain to be seen. My gut is that we’ll see Rock vs. Roman but it’s always possible Rock and/or WWE management will see the negative responses and seek to prevent that from getting worse. We’ll see. I know that WWE was absolutely monitoring the responses.”

It remains to be seen where Cody Rhodes fits into the WrestleMania plans if he does not end up facing Roman Reigns. We will also have to wait and see how WWE will dig itself out of this mess.
