This week has certainly not been in favor of The American Nightmare, Cody Rhodes. After potentially losing his WrestleMania spotlight to a part-time star attraction, Rhodes found himself on the receiving end of a sneak attack at a recent WWE live event.
WWE held its live show in Knoxville this weekend with the Prodigal Son being a part of the main event. He battled his former arch-nemesis Shinsuke Nakamura in a street fight and emerged victorious.
However, Nakamura was not going to let the night end with his lasting image of defeat. In recent footage released by WWE, Cody Rhodes found himself as the prey of a sneak attack.
As Cody made his way toward the backstage area, Shinsuke awaited Cody and launched his red mist on his face as soon as he saw him in sight. The former WWE Intercontinental champion was about to inflict more damage before an official came to break things.
“Last night at #WWEKnoxville, @americannightmarecody was attacked backstage by @shinsukenakamura.”
WWE has already derailed Cody Rhodes’ plans to battle Roman Reigns for the Undisputed WWE Universal championship at WrestleMania 40, in favor of positioning The Rock in the mix.
The attack could potentially be a way to divert the audience’s attention, who are showing constant support for The American Nightmare to headline WrestleMania against The Tribal Chief and finish the story.
Do you think this could be a curveball by WWE to take the negative attention off The Rock because of Cody Rhodes? Sound off in the comments!
